We at Sussex Asphalte are extremely proud to announce that our latest apprentice Charlie Plant was crowned the winner of the 2023 BMI Apprentice of the Year in flat roofing at the BMI Apprentice of the year awards 2023.

Over twenty apprentices and tutors took part in the event which was held at the BMI Training Academy in Gloucestershire. The awards took place over two days and the finalists were put to the test on flat and pitched workshops and technical demonstrations; all of which tested not only their roofing skills but their broader business skills aiding to help progress their careers in the future. The theme for this years competition was “Skills for Life”. Finalists were asked to exhibit how their experiences have shaped their learning, how they achieved learning a skill and how they have worked with others to develop their skill set.

Charlie’s commitment to his apprenticeship was said to be evident throughout the event and his dedication to keep learning and continue to inspire the next generation of flat roofers has been recognised in this deserving award. Charlie’s strong work ethic, attention to detail, resilience and determination is the embodiment of Sussex Asphaltes key values and the commitment to invest in the future of the roofing industry.
