PROJECT OVERVIEW

Sussex Asphalte were proud to be involved in the high-profile development of the new Fan Zone at the American Express Community Stadium (AMEX), home to Brighton & Hove Albion FC. The project forms part of the club’s wider commitment to improving the matchday experience for supporters, providing a dynamic new space for fans to gather pre- and post-game. Sussex Asphalte were tasked with the supply and installation of a robust, high-performance roofing system to protect and enhance the structure of the new Fan Zone. The project also involved the supply & installation of custom rooflights as well as the design and installation of a bespoke PPC metal fascia system to the roof perimeter, which was expertly delivered by our colleagues at Kingsley Industrial Metals. Designed to endure year-round exposure to the elements while maintaining a clean and modern aesthetic, the roof plays a key role in the overall functionality of the space.

PROJECT CHALLENGES

With a 100% bespoke design issued by our client for both the roofing and cladding, Sussex Asphalte leant heavily on our supply chain to develop specific details and carried out constant reviews of the works to ensure the client achieved the required 25-year guarantee. Numerous design meetings were held with the construction team and the client to deliver the desired finish. Working within a live stadium environment presented unique coordination challenges, given the tight project timelines and high public visibility. Our experienced team adopted a flexible and reactive approach, adjusting resourcing levels around matchdays and events to maintain programme delivery while ensuring minimal disruption and full compliance with health and safety protocols. On matchdays and during televised events, works would often pause to accommodate TV crews and facilitate stadium operations. The AMEX Fan Zone – The Terrace - now stands as a vibrant addition to the stadium complex, offering fans a covered, welcoming environment for entertainment and hospitality, and will surely be the envy of most Premier League football teams.
