Marine Parade is a Grade II listed building, formerly owned by Captain Henry Hill in the late 19th century. Captain Henry Hill was a collector of paintings, in particular those of Edgar Degas, which he stored in galleries the back end of the property directly under one of the areas we re-roofed. The 128m² Roofing area is situated over three large ground level rooms out the back of the three-story property. The further most roofing over the gallery includes a giant roof lantern custom made of lead and curved glass potentially over 100 years old.
Previously the roof was un-insulated, so we had to work out how to improve on the thermal qualities of the roof without compromising the waterproofing around the details. Many of the historic details of the roof like the large lantern had limited upstand heights which meant the most we could insulate was with 50mm PIR insulation boards. There were some areas that we had to lower this to 25mm to ensure we kept sufficient upstand heights and did not trap water on the different levels of the roof.
