This project based in Hove; West Sussex involved 1100m² of a complete re-roof down to the metal joist with the removal of several roofing layers. The original construction of the roof comprised of Woodwool slab, 2 layers of asbestos felt, 18mm OSB with the final layer being a fibre glass roof. Working alongside the end user’s incumbent contractor, we stripped the existing defective waterproofing back to the joist and installed a new built up roof consisting of new 18mm OSB and an insulated Garland UK 3-layer warm roof.
All of the scheduled works were undertaken whilst the building was in full use by the client and any works involving possible intrusion to the building were coordinated with careful consideration to the client in mind. These were all communicated between the client, site managing team and ourselves. One of main challenges was adhering to the clients strict 6 point PPE regulation in the height of summer when temperatures regularly exceeded 30 degrees. Additional monitoring of the operatives was required to ensure their health & wellbeing was maintained during these periods.
Garland specified an insulation scheme to adhere to current regulations which incorporated 140mm flat board and tapered insulation to the gutters spanning the roof length. This was designed by Garlands tapered insulation partner with a view to minimising excess waste.
