Mastic Asphalt

Description:

This project entailed the stripping of the existing asphalt covering from the concrete roof of building 12 and the relaying of 20mm asphalt in two coats, finished with two coats of solar reflective paint. We were required to reinstall exactly as would have been before the second world war some 70 years ago!

We have worked previously on many of the buildings within the headquarters and over the years we have refurbished and re-laid many of the roofs. Many of our projects at Kingstanding have been entered and shortlisted for Mastic Asphalt Council awards for high quality workmanship in an interesting and exciting site.

Oliver our year 3 apprentice who studies at Hackney College and who has passed with a distinction carried out the works on this site. All our operatives have City & Guilds Mastic Asphalt School 4 years apprenticeships, hold CSCS cards, directly employed, undertake regular health & safety training, Asbestos aware and DBS checked and are First Aid trained.

Additional Information:

Kingstanding has a long and interesting history having played a key roles in the propaganda during WWII. In 1941 Winston Churchill approved plans for the Diplomatic Wireless Service to install at the Kingstanding site what was then the world biggest and most powerful transmitter to broadcast propaganda to Germany. The site has listed buildings and since the mid 1980’s has been used by Sussex Police as a training facility. Our operatives were even asked to assist the police trainers in “riot” training.
