We ae very pleased to announce that company director Julian Coulter has been appointed as the new chairman of the Mastic Asphalt Council (MAC), the trade association for the mastic asphalt industry in the UK, which includes manufacturers, specialist application contractors, and associated suppliers of equipment and services.
Julian has extensive experience in roofing and mastic asphalt, including prestigious projects such as St Paul’s Cathedral, Dover Castle and Canterbury Cathedral.
Julian has been vice chairman of MAC since 2013, and in his new position, he takes over from former MAC chairman Keith Collins of Bell Asphalt. The MAC Board has also announced that Marcus Lee of IKO has been appointed as vice chairman.
Julian is the grandson of Joseph Secchi, the founder of Sussex Asphalte. His mother Eliana Coulter took over the running of the company with her brother Sid in the early 1960s, and successfully built the company up over the intervening years. Julian lived and breathed asphalt alongside his mother, where he started out as a construction labourer in the early 1980s.
He attended Vauxhall College of Building and Further Education from 1982 to 1984 and achieved a distinction in the Mastic Asphalt Apprenticeship. Julian and his brother took over the directors’ positions within the company in 2005, and throughout its growth, Julian has stayed loyal to the principles of high-quality work that remains the hallmark of the mastic asphalt sector.
Julian continues to inspire the next generation of mastic asphalters and is fully committed to the development and progression of the industry.
The directors of MAC include Dave Maginnis of BriggsAmasco, Ian Deacon of Rio Asphalt, Keith Collins of Bell Asphalt, Jason Shields of Premier Mastic Asphalt, Terry Grandi of Oxford Asphalt, John Chapman of Infallible Systems, and Steve Taylor of Guaranteed Asphalt.
